FREE Ban Total Refresh Cooling Body Cloths coupon came out in the 04-13-14 SS. Coupon value up to $3.99. I found about 80 of these coupons at the recycle center and traded for about another 25. Target price is $2.99. I was fortunate enough to get autodeduct and make $1.00 on each product. Target does NOT allow overage so I would purchase a $4 or $5 Target gift card with every transaction depending on what items I had that may give me overage towards the gift card. Tonight I cashed in all my target gift cards to purchase (2) $50 Disney gift cards. These gift cards will help pay for our two upcoming Florida trips within the next year :-)
Better news is I donated (100) Ban Refresh Cloths to a local shelter today :-)

If you don't mind me asking, which recycling centers are your favorites? I live in upper loudoun close to Maryland, and have to travel to get to the bins, but it is fun. Last week was horrible though, as the mean waste management truck was dumping the bins all 3 times I tried. GRRR! I love that there are so many fellow couponing moms in northern Va and so many good recyclers who don't use their coupons or Kelloggs codes :)
ReplyDeleteHi Erin-
ReplyDeleteI don't think my recycle ideology is a secret. LOL. Recycle Centers are total hit or miss.
Easiest is to start are the ones I avoid: Lucketts Elementary School, Hillsboro Elementary School, and Leesburg Walmart. Lucketts Elementary School uses the one recycle bin as a personal trash can. Hillsboro Elementary School was pretty good until they went to mixed recycling and now I find it to be a total miss. Leesburg Walmart has the old bins where glass and trash are everywhere and it is hard to access.
I recently got kicked out of the main recycle center in Leesburg---that was soooo embarrassing . Management said they were having a problem with scavengers. So I have not been back since I was kicked out of the trash place. See, it sound so awful....doesn't it? LOL LOL
I found 80 newspaper still bound in wire at the Arcola. But I have never found anything of that magnitude in Arcola before.
I like Sterling Park, Lovettsville, and Hamilton the most. I have had moderate success with Middleburg and Philomont. But even though Middleburg and Philomont are moderate... I LOVE the drive. I hit Sterling Park the most...but then a lot of people hit Sterling Park. Tons of people drop off and then go looking thru the bins. So there is competition.
I would love to hear what your experiences are :-)
My best experience was one night when we were wasting time coming home from Great Country Farms and were wasting time so the kids could finish a redbox movie, so I made my husband park at the recycling center (he thinks I'm a loon). Someone had dumped a bunch of gamer magazines from the 1990s to early 2000s. I don't normally take the magazines but instinct drove me to start grabbing. I haven't sold them yet on ebay because my inlaws came to visit, but one of them alone sells for 50 to 200 dollars. I have over 200 to list as lots and individually and cant wait to get rid of them and see what they bring. God is so good at delivering when things are at there toughest. Lucketts only has recycling on Saturdays now by the ruritan club. I got to scavenge because my boy scout was volunteering. They are the harder to look in bins but I was able to get some new coupons and codes. Some people look at me like im crazy and others would actually ask what I was looking for and wisht they could help. People are so different. OK, off to late night harris teeter because we have redbox movies that are overdue. I would love to chat off blog if you want. My gmail is narcoerin@gmail.com I love to chat with couponers as there aren't any where I live and my family thinks Im crazy.
DeleteTarget won't allow you to use the overage towards other items you are purchasing, but will allow you to use it towards gift cards?
ReplyDeleteHi Theresa-
DeleteThis is a YMMV. Target policy is NO overage-period. So if a cashier adjusts a coupon down to reflect a price lower than the coupon....they can do so. Target can adjust the price down even though they will get full price of the coupon +8cents processing. I have seen cashiers adjust a $3 value to $2.99 to reflect the actual price of the product .... to a cashier not using autodeduct and giving only the value of the product. It is a complete roll of the die on how a cashier will respond to my coupons.
However, some cashiers give full value of coupon. They give full value of coupon and reasons vary for why they do it. Might be because cashiers know Target will get full value or easier to autodeduct or fill in blank.
If a cashier gives me full value of the coupon than I have overage. How do I absorb overage? 1) to pay for items in my cart i.e food, shoes, clothes, etc. 2) use to purchase Target gift cards. In this specific case I purchase $4 & $5 Target gift card per transaction because Target has a policy of 4 like coupons per transaction. I hoarded by gift cards until I had enough and then purchased Disney gift cards. If the cashier would not have allowed the max value on the coupon...I would not have purchased the gift card(s). If the pendulum swung the other way and the cashier took off only face value of the product then I could not make demands about overage because Target policy clearly states no overage.
The only store that I know that gives overage and has a policy for overage is Walmart. They give overage in the form of a Walmart gift card with manager override approval.
Does that make sense?
Yes, but are you saying that you wait until they scan the coupons to see if they auto-deduct before grabbing the Target gift cards and adding them to your transaction? Because, I could see where you might go into the negative and then have a cashier say, oh my, we have to fix this, and then adjust the coupon down after it had scanned at full price......
DeleteNo, I grab a gift card and place it in with the other items. Then wait to see if I get overage. If I don't get overage I politely tell them I have changed my mind and they can easily rescind it.
DeleteBut then I have a habit of looking for my favorite cashiers at the store too. In addition, I also know who to avoid as they have habitually lowered my coupons every time without fail.
