Harris Teeters - Super Doubles Day 1

I debated about posting because of something that happened but this is my couponing diary so I decided to post.
Spent 36cents - saved $87.51

Spent the day organizing coupons and matching up items to my non-mainstream coupons.  After I was organized, I place my 5 year old in the car and off to Harris Teeters we go.  Shopping with my 5 year old is problematic.  I love my only child but grocery shopping with him is painful for both of us.  He wants everything, dumps things in the cart, and plays cashier with my coupons when I am not looking.  Therefore I have to say no to his wants, sort through my cart to make sure items inside the cart should actually be there, and pray that none of my coupons are lost during his cashier role play.

Sure enough this shopping trip is just like the others so I scurry through shopping using my iPad list and coupons.  One item to note is I see a higher number of serious couponers this time around shopping.  Tons of binders and clipping IP coupons on the fly were seen.

At check out I was elated with my savings but I knew something was not quite right.

My first clue was:  The cashier had scanned all coupons but the scope BOGO.  The bill at this point was $4.30 and over $3 in tax.  The cashier took off $3.99 for the scope and my total was only 36 cents.

My second clue:  I should not have had that much in overage.
Overage: 51 cents Scope + 51 cent Downy + 51cent on VidalS = $1.53
Used overage on: Celestial tea .50cents + .75 cent tuna (btw $1.50/3 MQ in this months Weight Watchers Mag)  + .98 cents on Sara Lee bread (my family on eats whole wheat so it costs more than the white bread but still a great deal at 49cents each) = $2.23
Therefore I should paid $2.23-$1.53 = 70 cents total plus tax.

My third clue:  Downy ZVR did not come off my final receipt.  I see on several blogs that others did not have it come off either.  So in reality I never got overage on Downy

So I went over my receipt line by line and noticed something that was both embarrassing and interesting.  When shopping I looked for the Hormel Ham in the meat case but did not see "Cure 81." So I picked up the ham slices which I though was just a similiar type of Hormel ham slice.  However, I purchased Smithfield ham slices and I never paid attention that it was a totally different brand.  Shopping was chaotic with my small son so I never noticed that my coupon and purchase did not match at all.  However, that Hormel ham coupon scanned AND doubled automatically giving me almost $3.00 in overage! The coupon I used was $2/1 Hormel Cure 81 Boneless Ham, Any - 11-10-13 SS.  I think that is the weirdest couponing thing that has ever happened to me.
