Shelf Clearers

I just read a rant on a blog about shelf clearers.  For me personally, shelf clearing is not my thing.   I watch Extreme Couponing and I just can NOT relate to the high people seem to get from clearing a shelf.  However, if you are clearing a shelf for a specific item that will benefit your family than who am I to judge.

My stockpile at the house is relatively small for a reason - so that I do not purchase tons of crap that will sit, cause clutter, and/or purchase items I won't use.  Just because something is FREE doesn't always mean it is FREE, you have to pay tax.  Tax in my area is 6% State tax plus another 2.5% local tax.  Tax adds up and it is money out of pocket money.

There have been 2 times in my life that I have cleared a shelf. I did not feel guilty either time.
1) the last 9 shaving creams at Wags  for a $9MM.  I guess it is clearing a shelf if I purchased the last nine shaving creams
2) going the very last day - late in the evening - during a Harris Teeters Super Doubles to get 21 Caress Body Wash.  My coupon trade arrived very late.  Super Doubles was ending in 4.5 hours for the week.  I had one body wash left in my stock pile so it was something I really needed to stock up on.
3) I will even own up to an unremembered third time.

I guess my point is that I rarely clear a shelf.  But when I do I have no remorse as I need the items to provide for my family - either as an outright MM to get something my family needs or clearing a shelf on an item that I need for my family.  Do I miss some deals because of shelf clearers? Yes. But I think I make out in the long run and over time on deals in general.  I can only be accountable for me and my actions.  I am not the coupon police nor do I judge others with their couponing.  To each his own.

I think that is what I love about Harris Teeters Super Doubles 1) daily coupon limit 2) limit on like items.  It gives everyone a fighting chance to grab a deal.  I try to go everyday during Super Doubles to max my savings during the week because of the coupon limits.
